Antigua & Barbuda suffered a tough 3-0 defeat to The Bahamas on Tuesday in Group B action at the Davis Cup Americas Group IV Tournament at the National Racquet Sports Centre in Tacarigua, Trinidad & Tobago.

The Bahamas took control early, winning both singles matches before sealing the sweep in doubles. In the opening clash, Bahamian Donte Armbrister overpowered Deandre Weeks in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. The win was historic for the 23-year-old Armbrister, marking his first-ever Davis Cup singles victory.

Antigua & Barbuda’s top player, Jody Maginley, pushed Bahamian number one seed Denali Nottage to three sets in the second match, but Nottage held on to take it 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, clinching the tie for his team.

In doubles, the Bahamas pairing of Armbrister and Kofi Bowe proved too strong for Antigua & Barbuda’s Rodain Monelle and Ron Murraine, winning 6-0, 6-2. The result also gave Bowe his first Davis Cup victory.

Antigua & Barbuda, competing alongside The Bahamas, Cuba, Panama, and Suriname in Group B, will look to bounce back as the tournament continues. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the promotional playoffs for a place in the 2026 Americas Group III.

The Davis Cup, known as the “World Cup of Tennis,” features 10 nations in this year’s Group IV tournament, which runs until August 9. Matches start daily at 10 a.m.
