The Department of Youth Affairs has recognised four outstanding young writers in the National Youth Volunteer Corps Essay Competition, held as part of National Youth Week 2025.
The contest, which asked participants to answer the question “Why Does Volunteering Matter?”, drew entries from across the country.
In the 13–17 age group, Rheikecia Manning captured first place, earning a laptop from AKNAH Imports along with a Top Up voucher and school bag from APUA iNet. Second place went to Kirvin Marcellin, who received school supplies from AKNAH Imports and the same prize package from APUA Inet.
In the 18+ category, Amar Singh took the top spot, winning a LIAT Air ticket to travel anywhere in the region. Kaiana Cannonier placed second, receiving a US$250 dinner for two at Hodges Bay Resort.
Organisers congratulated all the winners, Manning, Marcellin, Singh, and Cannonier, and thanked every participant for helping to highlight the value of volunteerism during the week’s celebrations.
