Caribbean Airlines Given Two Years to Fix Finances or Face Shutdown
Caribbean Airlines, which operates several daily flights between Antigua and Barbuda and destinations across the region, has been given two years to get their act together or face shut down.
Prime minister of Trinidad Kamla Persad Bessessar who gave the deadline revealed that the airline has not submitted an audited financial statement in nine years and that none of its current routes are profitable.
“To date Caribbean Airlines has not submitted an audited financial statement for the last nine years. Do you know that not one single Caribbean Airlines route is profitable, not one route is profitable, yet plane filling out every day, going and coming. Not one single route of Caribbean Airline is bringing in a profit, but we are spending millions of dollars on the airline” she told supporters.
She further warned management and staff that their future depends on a swift financial turnaround.
“I am giving the management of Caribbean Airlines two years, max. They have to sort out the mess; otherwise, everyone there will be looking for a new job. Your future is in your hands,” she declared.
Caribbean Airlines has long been a key regional carrier, providing essential connectivity from Antigua’s VC Bird International Airport to Douglas–Charles Airport in Dominica and other airports across the region. However, ongoing losses and a lack of transparency have put mounting pressure on the company to reform.

Something I expected more from the InterCaribbean! I guess you truly shouldn’t judge a book by its cover! All in favor of LIAT Air say “I”……
All these flights and new flights added and they aren’t making profit? Thats is something very much crazy and wild to me!!
I actually thought they were doing well. The way their tickets are above all the rest you would think these people are top notch.
With the poor customer service and expensive its ok to shut them down
Wait, y’all really have Caribbean Airlines on the chopping block and not Intercaribbean with its horrible customer service and inconsistent service???
Before I book Intercaribbean to go anywhere ever again, I’m going via Caribbean Airlines or an International airline. Hopefully Liat can get their ish together soon.
What about Liat horrible air hostesses who always have bad attitudes on that flight? The African ones. Like they are always angry and bitter
NINEEEEE YEARS and no audit? where is the accountability. How are the routes not profitable if like you say the plane is up and running every day? Anyway, I don’t understand aviation so let me just wait to see what happens after those two years.
Picking on Caribbean Airlines because you have other plans to replace it. Nonesence!!!!
I wonder if poor customer service is part of the reason they’re in this mess.
Are we getting any audits from LIAT or is Gaston just propping it up with taxpayer dollars and syphoning monies from road building grants and stolen yachts.
