Teens Arrested After High-Speed Chase Ends in Collision

Two teenagers are in police custody following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash on Joseph Lane early Saturday morning.

According to reports, the incident began around 3:50 a.m. when officers on patrol along Independence Avenue spotted a car reversing down a side street near Little Canton Supermarket. Police signalled for the vehicle to stop, but the driver instead sped off, prompting a dangerous pursuit through several streets.

The chase came to an abrupt end when the fleeing vehicle collided with another car being driven by a Bendals resident along Joseph Lane.

Police say the driver, who was carrying a black backpack, and his passenger immediately fled on foot. Officers gave chase and apprehended the passenger, a 17-year-old, at the junction of Valley Road and Joseph Lane near the King George grounds. He was detained and taken to St. John’s Police Station.

The driver, a 19-year-old from Bendals, later returned to the scene with his father and surrendered to officers at Gray’s Farm Police Station.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.

  9. This is really worrying. High-speed chases like this put everyone on the road at serious risk not just the drivers involved. I hope the teenagers and anyone affected by the crash are okay, and that steps are taken to prevent something like this from happening again.
