
A group of young Antiguans and Barbudans will soon depart for the People’s Republic of China to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies under various academic programmes.
The students are preparing to embark on degree studies in fields ranging from engineering and medicine to computer science, business, and the arts.
Among them is Zhaveah Rhycor Quyade Benjamin of Cassada Gardens, who will pursue studies in Chemical Engineering and Industrial Biological Engineering at the prestigious Tsinghua University after completing her Chinese language programme at Capital Normal University.
Kerisa Keryl Karanje Campbell of Upper Fort Road will study Computer Science and Technology at Wuhan University of Technology, following her language training at the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan.
Olia Nyla Campbell of Herberts Estate heads to Shandong University of Science and Technology to pursue a degree in Software Engineering, while Daniella Amanda Nadia Mohamed of Hatton will attend Central South University to study Clinical Medicine.
Ciara Crystal McKinnon of Golden Grove will major in Business Administration at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, after language training at Central China Normal University.
In addition, several students completed their Chinese language foundation at Tongji University and will advance to further studies in various disciplines.
They include Davonny Chermilla Chancee Diaz (Golden Grove), Ken-Nyse Nasdiiq Lynch (Gambles Terrace), Nailah Takiya Jacobs (Cassada Gardens), Leon Joshua Alexander Tomlinson (Belmont), Rahshon Solone Looby (Paynters), Allesha Kenesha Monee Le Blanc and Isizis Judeishia Le Blanc (Paynters Development), Kimone Britania Peters (Freeman’s Village), Aunjelique Nayomi Liddie (St. Clair Heights), and Maddyson Sammyster Talisa Mills (Nut Grove).
At the graduate level, Jesse Dean Jonas of Potters has been accepted into the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, where he will pursue a Master’s Degree in Information and Communication Engineering along with a Master of Professional Accountancy.
Also among those continuing their academic journey are returning students Zidane Martin and Roy-Ann Boyer, who are entering their second year of studies in China.
The scholarship programme is part of Antigua and Barbuda’s ongoing educational cooperation with the Government of China, which has, over the years, provided opportunities for hundreds of nationals to further their studies at top Chinese institutions.
