St. Peters MP Rawdon Turner did not mince words when speaking of the “hypocrisy” of the Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle while in Parliament on Monday.
Turner called out Pringle and his leadership skills.
He mentioned that it is quite a shocking ordeal to hear Pringle suggesting investing West Indies Oil Company (WIOC) into Social Security instead of the Jolly Beach Hotel.
This, Turner added truly highlights the ill intentions of the leader and his opposition members as it was these same persons who adamantly opposed the WIOC deal years ago.
“I sat down, and I listened to the Leader of the Opposition make his presentation and I was genuinely open to hear an alternative solution to address the issue that Social Security is currently facing and the best I could hear is for us to take our shares of WIOC and to invest them into Social Security.
“If you can remember when the Gaston Browne administration spoke about investing in WIOC all manner of evil was said. So, how can the Leader of the Opposition stand in this honorable House and use WIOC as an example?” Turner asked.
“This is hypocrisy at the highest level. I am at a loss for words because every investment the ABLP makes on behalf of the people of Antigua and Barbuda, the UPP always think that they must oppose for opposing sake. No matter how good the investment is for the country. I can see why there is a new leader, well a new recycled leader is on the horizon for that party because the current leader is blinded by the rhetoric that he must oppose for opposing sake…he offered no plans or solutions but instead fought tooth and nail for the Director of Social Security to speak,” Turner said.
Turner said there are times when Pringle must put party politics aside for the betterment of the country, instead of opposing every single investment made.
He referenced a scenario years ago where the then Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Gaston Browne supported the proposal of CIP. Standing against his fellow party members.
A move, Turner said Pringle should use an example.
Regarding the resolution itself, Turner gave his full support for the resolution which eventually was passed.
“I support this resolution because my family members, myself, my child, and most importantly my constituents in St. Peter, they want when it is time to receive from Social Security that it is a viable entity that is making profit to support them in their golden age,” Turner concluded.

Looks like sparks flew in Parliament today!
This is hardly hypocracy!! It is clear that Gaston and or the government has had a good return from the West Indies Oil investment. He is entitled to point out that the WO might be a better investment for the pensioners of Antigua. Perhaps an indirect acceptance that the WO investment may have been a good one, but never the less seeing the bigger picture and recognising that WO would be a better investment!!
So stop your nonsense Mr Turner. You can only fool blinded Labour supporters.
Correct me if I am wrong. Didn’t the government relinquished it shares to the citizens of the country?
All of all you is the same so no comments
I have faith that just as Prime Minister Browne and ABLP made west Indian oil company profitable so too will they make Jolly Beach so give the man and the party a chance. It is important to remember the saying – nothing ventured nothing gained.
WIOC is in better condition financially to invest in Jolly Beach instead using the Social Security money. People can’t get their Social Security benefits and claims on time because of scheme financial struggles. WIOC is more liquid than Social Security. Right now the private sector is the one who is carrying Social Security in their monthly contributions.
Hypocrisy indeed. How can you condemn a deal one day and then recommend it the next? Smh. Then again the UPP are just a set of idiots with no brains
This is why party politics is a problem. People suffer while politicians argue over who’s right or wrong.
