Tanez Francis
Antigua and Barbuda’s Tanez Francis continued his stellar form, scoring a vital half-century to lead the Leeward Islands Under-17s to a comfortable DLS victory over Guyana Under-17s in the West Indies Rising Stars Under-17 Men’s 50-Over Championship on Thursday.
The Leeward Islands captain struck seven fours and two sixes in an innings of 74 off 99 balls, helping his team post 227 for six in their 50 overs. Francis followed up his impressive 110 against Jamaica just a day earlier, which had guided his team to a narrow one-wicket DLS triumph.
Amoree Jones also contributed with a solid 52 off 74 deliveries, while Hosea Roberts remained unbeaten on 34 from 62 balls, providing crucial support in the middle order.
In reply, Guyana struggled against disciplined bowling. Jathan Edwards led the attack with three wickets for 33 runs, supported by Kunal Tilokani, who claimed two for 32. Guyana were eventually bowled out for 163 in 36.5 overs. Navendra Sankar was the top performer for Guyana with three wickets for 40 runs. Parmeshwar Ram top-scored for the visitors with 35, while Emmanuel Lewis and Shamar Apple added 26 and 19 runs, respectively.
Elsewhere, Trinidad and Tobago defeated Jamaica by 91 runs under the DLS system, and Barbados dominated the Windward Islands by 107 runs.
Leeward Islands are second in the points table with 32.4 points, just behind Barbados on 35.2. Trinidad and Tobago sit third with 23.2 points, Windward Islands fourth on 19.6, while Guyana and Jamaica occupy fifth and sixth positions with 17.4 and 11.8 points respectively. All teams have played two matches.
