According to the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), the first incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, 2 September 2025, when a fault developed on one of the plant’s UPS units between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., forcing an emergency shutdown.

A similar problem surfaced again early Wednesday morning around 4 a.m., leaving large sections of the island without electricity. The affected areas stretch from the Council Building through to Two Foot Bay.

APUA officials said technicians are working in close collaboration with the plant’s installers to identify and resolve the issue, but no definitive timeline for restoration has been given.

The authority apologized for the inconvenience caused by the outages and assured residents that every effort is being made to restore service as soon as possible.
