The ABLP government is moving full steam ahead with plans to transform the Barbuda International Airport into a modern international gateway, with Cabinet on Wendnesday, approving several key measures to support the expansion.
During the meeting the Deputy Chief Immigration Officer and the Acting CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority appeared before Cabinet to provide an update on progress at the facility.
Following their presentation, Cabinet approved the allocation of additional premises to house the Immigration Department at the airport, ensuring smoother and more efficient passenger processing.
The wider expansion project will see the airport upgraded to accommodate larger international aircraft, expand the passenger terminal, improve cargo handling facilities, and integrate modern security and customs systems.
Officials say these changes will open new routes for tourism and commerce while positioning Barbuda as a potential hub for trade and logistics in the subregion.
Cabinet also confirmed the pre-approval of a loan for the construction of concrete roads across Barbuda, set to begin in the latter half of this year. Poor road conditions have long hampered travel to and from the airport, affecting both workers and passengers.
The upgraded road network will directly support the airport’s expansion while delivering broader benefits for residents, tourism, and the local economy.

Upgrading the roads is just as important as the airport itself, getting there safely and quickly matters.
Modern security systems are essential. It’s about keeping travelers safe while making the process efficient.
With all this expansion what’s the update on the name change. Haven’t heard about that and it’s been about a year
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Finally! Barbuda deserves modern infrastructure. An upgraded airport will open the island to new opportunities.
