China Extends Irrigation Training to Local Farmers

Farmers across Antigua and Barbuda will soon receive training in modern irrigation techniques, as the People’s Republic of China ramps up its technical assistance to the agriculture sector.

Chief Extension Officer Owolabi Elabanjo confirmed that the support is being provided through the China Aid Programme in partnership with the Chinese Embassy, Yuan Long Ping High-Tech Agriculture Co. Ltd, and the Ministry of Agriculture and the Blue Economy.

The three-week course, focusing on “Agricultural Water-Saving Irrigation for Antigua and Barbuda,” is scheduled to run from October 16 to November 5 at the Villa Poly Clinic.

Elabanjo said the training aims to help farmers adopt more efficient water management practices, a crucial step for boosting food security in a country that often faces drought conditions.

Interested farmers are being urged to register with the Agricultural Extension Division.

  4. Every drop of water counts. If our farmers can master efficient irrigation, we’ll all feel the benefits at the market.

  5. This must be paired with access to equipment and funding, or the training won’t go far.
