Students Head Back to School as Education Director Promises Transformative Year

Thousands of students across Antigua and Barbuda return to classrooms today (September 8) to begin the 2025–26 academic year, which Director of Education Clare Browne says will be one of the most transformative periods in the nation’s education system.

In a national address to mark the reopening of schools, Browne urged teachers, students, parents, and education partners to embrace the changes that will roll out over the next three terms.

“This 2025–26 academic year promises to be a transformative one,” Browne said. “We must band together to achieve the goals of quality, equity, and inclusivity in the education sector.”

He encouraged younger students to keep their minds open to learning and discovery, while calling on those in secondary and tertiary institutions to balance academics with spiritual growth and service to others.

Teachers and counselors were reminded of the vital role they play in shaping future generations. “You are guiding a whole generation of Antiguans and Barbudans,” Browne said, urging educators to move forward with unity and purpose.

As backpacks and uniforms filled the nation’s classrooms once again, the Education Director reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to delivering accessible, inclusive, and innovative learning that equips students to become lifelong learners and globally competitive citizens.
