High commendations are being made to the students who sat this year’s Grade 6 National Assessment.
Ninety percent of the students attained “acceptable scores” in this year’s sitting.
A two percent increase from last year.
“Of this 90%, we see 550 students who were females and just about the same number of students who are males, 549. So just about the same number of our male and female students would have attained at least acceptable scores,” Mrs. Jewelle Gore-Hurst, Education Officer in the Measurement and Evaluation Unit explained.
Director of Education Clare Browne congratulated the students for their performances “despite a trying year”.
“The Ministry of Education today sits a little taller, stands a little prouder, as we celebrate the results of our students on the recently held Grade 6 National Assessment. You see, the academic year that was, has been riddled with challenges, several challenges, disruptions of classes and so on and so forth and in spite of that, our youngsters were able to perform. So, we want to congratulate them. We celebrate them today,” Browne said.
The top education official was speaking earlier today on the Grade 6 National Assessment results.
This year, there was also an increase in the percentage passes for Science and Mathematics compared to 2024.
This means of the 1216 students that took the exams, 88 and 72 percent received marks over 50 percent in Science and Mathematics respectively.
An increase from last year’s, 77 and 68 percent.
“Notice that for 2025, the percentage of students attaining at least 50% exceeds 70%. For mathematics, 874 of our students or 72% of them would have gotten at least 50% score.
“In science, we see 1,072 of the students with an 88% accounting for that performance and if we look closely at that science performance in 2024, you notice that 11%-point improvement, 11% over last year,” Gore-Hurst added.
Browne went on to thank the teachers and parents for their input and support.
A challenging school year, yet 90% of our students hit the mark? That’s nothing short of inspiring. These young scholars pushed through and proved their strength
