Several supermarkets in and around the capital have closed their liquor sections today as Antigua and Barbuda observes the National Day of Prayer, a public holiday dedicated to reflection and intercession for the nation.

In keeping with government regulations, the sale of alcohol has been suspended for the day.

Retailers across St. John’s confirmed their compliance, noting that signs were posted to inform customers of the restriction.

The National Day of Prayer is marked annually with church services, community gatherings, and moments of reflection, as residents are encouraged to seek divine guidance for the country’s social, economic, and spiritual well-being.

Authorities say the measure is aimed at preserving the sanctity of the day, ensuring that it is observed with reverence.

  9. Maybe, just maybe leave the adult choice to drink or not to drink to adults personally, instead of enforcing unsubstantiated and debunked stone age beliefs on adults. You wanna talk to yourself and not eat that’s your business. The rest of us that recognise its 2025 and not the 17th century believe action speaks louder than words and would like to decide for ourselves.
