Police have launched an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday on Lower Nelson Street in St. John’s.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. near a local supermarket. Officers on mobile patrol were alerted by members of the public who reported hearing gunshots in the area.

A witness told police that he and three friends were nearby when a silver vehicle approached and came to a stop close to their location. An armed individual reportedly exited the passenger side of the vehicle, fired several rounds, then re-entered the car, speeding off in an easterly direction.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Police investigated the area and collected physical evidence, however, a search for the suspect vehicle and its occupants yielded no results.

The investigation remains active as authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the nearest police station or reach out anonymously via the Crimestoppers hotline.

  6. I can’t believe something like this happened so close to home, especially near a supermarket where families go. Well thats a stupid statement since it happens close to home everytime. It is actually very terrifying. I just hope that the police can find those responsible quickly. We need to prioritize the safety of our children and neighborhoods. These issues are becoming very scary in this small island. To be quite honest, it’s hard to feel safe when incidents like this occur. My heart goes out to all those affected.
