Hospital Responds to Concerns Following Maternal Death

The nation’s main hospital has issued a statement following the death of a young mother, an incident that has stirred public concern and renewed debate about maternal care in Antigua and Barbuda.

In the release, the hospital expressed condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased, noting that maternal deaths are “always devastating and deeply felt by families and healthcare teams alike.”

The institution confirmed that the mother was under continuous care during her admission. According to the statement, the medical team “worked tirelessly and compassionately,” and her private physician was also involved in her treatment.

Officials added that while doctors and nurses followed the appropriate standard of care, the patient’s autonomy and choices about her care were respected.

The hospital said that, in keeping with ethical and legal obligations, it cannot disclose details of the patient’s medical information. However, it stressed that every maternal death is reviewed carefully to ensure care remains at the highest standard.

“Above all, we remain committed to supporting families through these painful moments with compassion and dignity,” the statement concluded.

  5. Respect her wishes about what? She didn’t want to be under ventilator. Sometimes I believe people just okay Russian Roulette with people’s lives

  6. No one is perfect. Doctors can mistake. They are human beings like anyone else.

However, the concern lies with how the authorities handles these contentious matters with very little transparency & accountability.

They appear to be pushed under the table, thus causing the bereaved parties to be left dissatisfied.

  7. So what are you saying hospital? She asked to die? Because you said you respect patient choices. Remember she was 25, fane into the hospital to have a baby without any prior complications. Make it make sense

  8. Always two sides to a story. This is theirs. Lord be the judge
