SLBMC Marks Internship Graduation, Honours Future Physicians and Mentors
The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has celebrated the graduation of its latest class of medical interns, marking the successful completion of a demanding year of clinical training.
The internship program, a cornerstone of medical education in Antigua and Barbuda, provides young doctors with practical experience across multiple specialties and is a key requirement for full licensing in the country.
This year’s graduating class included 11 interns: Dr. Stephanie Deib, Dr. Neejah Crump, Dr. Grace Edwards, Dr. Phillescia Jean, Dr. Michelle Jeffrey, Dr. Alex Kelsick, Dr. Prince Lee, Dr. Debresia Lewis, Dr. Alicia Rouse, Dr. Doniece Thomas, and Dr. Lee Ann Sandy.

Several graduates were recognized for outstanding contributions during their training year. Dr. Michelle Jeffrey received the Clinical Excellence Award, while Dr. Alicia Rouse earned both the Patient Care and Compassion Award and the prestigious Intern of the Year title. Dr. Neejah Crump was honoured with the Leadership and Team Spirit Award, Dr. Prince Lee was named Most Improved Intern, and Dr. Alex Kelsick received the Spirit of Service Award.
SLBMC also acknowledged the efforts of mentors and departments that played a critical role in guiding the interns. The Mentorship Award went to Dr. Vonetta George, the Paediatrics Team earned recognition for Outstanding Department Support, and Dr. Samora Goodwin was presented with the Best Teaching Consultant Award.

Hospital officials hailed the program as a vital part of strengthening Antigua and Barbuda’s health sector by preparing young doctors for the demands of medical practice.

Proud moment for our health sector. More trained doctors mean stronger healthcare for the nation.
Well done Dr. Rouse, sweeping the awards! Your patients clearly felt your compassion.
