Cash and Documents Stolen from School Staffroom

A teacher’s trip to Police Headquarters with students ended with her becoming a victim of crime herself, after returning to discover her purse had vanished from the school’s staff room.

The Potters Village woman had reportedly secured her black Kipling purse inside her handbag before departing the secondary school with students on September 8th. She placed the bag on a chair and tucked it under a desk in the staff room before leaving the premises at approximately 10:43 am.

The two-hour absence to Police Headquarters proved costly. Upon returning around 12:47 pm, she is said to have found both the purse and its contents had disappeared from where she left them.

The theft cost her more than just cash. Multiple pieces of government-issued identification, several bank cards, and three supermarket loyalty cards were also taken, creating potential headaches beyond the immediate financial loss.

School authorities contacted police, who conducted a thorough search of the premises hoping to locate the missing items. Despite their efforts, the purse and its contents remain missing.

  1. So who else stole the money other than those in the staff room. Antigua.news give me a break.

  2. This is bold. Someone had to know she was away on the trip. It raises questions about whether staff or outsiders are slipping in and out of schools unchecked. Cameras and tighter access control are urgently needed

    • We have to instill a culture of respect for our teachers. If they don’t feel secure at their own workplace, what message are we sending to the younger generation?

  3. This incident shows that crime isn’t only about robberies in the street … it’s also about trust and safety in institutions. Schools must ensure that staff rooms are not left vulnerable, especially when teachers step out.

  4. It’s really sad when even schools aren’t safe anymore. Teachers already sacrifice so much, and to return from a trip with students only to find personal belongings stolen is disheartening. Security at our schools needs to be taken more seriously.

  5. Stealing from a school? That’s beyond low. Teachers and students already face enough challenges.

  6. This sounds like an inside job to me. Too coincidental that the theft happened during the exact two-hour window she was away. Schools need to check who has access to staff areas.

  7. I don’t leave my Handbag anywhere that I am not. I would have taken it to the station with me.

  8. When I was teaching, I would leave my purse in my car’s trunk and carry my keys on a lanyard around my neck. I know most people don’t drive in Antigua so might I suggest carrying a phone case with credit card slips and space for cash on yiur oerson. It’s a daggone shame to think that the thief, in this case, could be a fellow teacher because this seems like an inside job to me. I can’t stand a daggone thief!!!
