There’s only one man in Antigua and Barbuda who can make the nation’s colours dance on every street corner, at every cricket match, and across every Carnival parade. On Saturday, that man, Hilson “Flag Man” Joseph is celebrating his birthday, and the whole island seems to be waving along with him!
Flag Man, instantly recognizable in his bold outfits stitched from the red, blue, yellow, white, and black of the national flag, has been a walking, talking, waving symbol of patriotism for decades. Whether it’s a parade, a concert, or just an ordinary Tuesday, if Flag Man is there, the flag is flying high.
Social media lit up with birthday greetings, as fans shared selfies and stories of the times he brought them smiles with his boundless energy. “Flag Man is Carnival. Flag Man is cricket. Flag Man is Antigua,” one admirer wrote.
The man himself? He likely spent the day doing what he loves best: waving that flag with pride and reminding everyone around him why Antigua and Barbuda is worth celebrating every single day.
So here’s to you, Flag Man — may your flag fly even higher this year. Happy Birthday!…Well, in this case, belated birthday.

Happy birthday flag man may you live to fly many more flags.
