Southwest farmers Market set for tomorrow

Residents will be able to take advantage of purchasing fresh local produce on Wednesday through the SouthWest Farmers Market.

The event features farmers and agro-processors from the Jennings to Old Road district and has been around for four years now. It has been such a success over the years that the Agriculture division has moved to hosting the event every month. The last Wednesday of each month.

We realized that during COVID, farmers were having problems marketing their produce because everybody was in the same space, and everybody had the same produce and so, we decided that we’re going to set up our own farmers market within the district and have persons that are catching a bus or taking a drive to town, they come to the market, they get to know their farmers, they get to see who’s producing their food.

Whatever we sell is what we produce within the district which comprises of the agricultural land, some Jennings, right round to Old Road,” Oneicia Anthony Agriculture District Officer explained.

Anthony is encouraging persons to come and support.

The farmers market will begin at 6am and continue until all produce is sold.

It will be held at the Jennings Primary School Road.
