Cabinet Grants Utility Waiver for ABFA Technical Center

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved a request from the Minister for Sport, Hon. Daryll Matthew, on behalf of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA), for the waiver of all utility charges at the ABFA Technical Center in Paynters, St. George.

In making its decision, Cabinet acknowledged the ABFA as the official governing body for football in the country and noted that the Technical Center is a landmark investment in national sports development.

The state-of-the-art facility features two FIFA-certified artificial turf fields, modern player changing rooms, laundry services, administrative offices, and public amenities. It also functions as the national hub for football training, youth development, and competitions, including school tournaments hosted in partnership with the Ministry of Sports.

Cabinet further recognized that the Technical Center, the first of its kind in Antigua and Barbuda represents a multi-million-dollar investment in sporting infrastructure. Consistent with existing government policy, other national sports venues benefit from similar concessions, and the decision ensures equal treatment for the ABFA facility.

The waiver of electricity and water charges will be applied on a continuing basis, reflecting the Government’s support for the vital role the Center plays in advancing youth and community development, nurturing sporting excellence, and elevating Antigua and Barbuda’s profile in regional and international football.

In commending the ABFA, Cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to expand the nation’s social and sporting infrastructure and to foster opportunities for young people through sports.

  1. This is a reasonable request after all it is a national organization and is not like they making a ton of money. The upkeep of the place alone is a lot
