Ministry of Works Highlights September Achievements in Road Rehabilitation Drive
The Ministry of Works is celebrating major strides in its national road construction and repair programme, pointing to September as a month of “progress in motion” that has already transformed travel across several communities.
In a statement released this week, the ministry credited its engineers, contractors, truck drivers, quarry operators, and road crews for sustaining what it described as “consistent progress” on an island-wide scale.
“Behind every road upgrade were countless hands at work, our concrete plant batching overtime, quarries running at full capacity, dedicated truck drivers, skilled engineers, committed contractors, and resilient road crews all making this consistent progress possible,” according to the department
Recent upgrades include significant works along Valley Road North, where motorists are experiencing single-lane traffic as crews complete repairs to headwalls, concrete swales, and asphalt surfacing. Meanwhile, on Anchorage Road, improvements to sidewalks, culverts, and road markings are well advanced. Asphalt repairs are also ongoing along the Sir Sydney Walling Highway, stretching westwards from Willikies.
In the community of Clare Hall, routine maintenance and resurfacing works have addressed several key roadways, improving access for residents and businesses alike. The Parham–Blue Waters main road, near Matthew’s Auto Parts in Clare Hall, has also seen upgrades, weather permitting.
The ministry noted that these projects are part of a broader “road works revolution” designed to enhance safety, improve drainage, and extend the lifespan of national infrastructure. Looking ahead, officials revealed that upcoming phases will target major highways, including All Saints Road, which is scheduled for comprehensive upgrades.
Minister of Works, Maria Browne, extended appreciation to the dedicated ministry staff, contractors such as C.O. Williams, and all partners who contributed to the September milestones. “Our gratitude goes to everyone who made these improvements possible.
The road ahead remains long, but we are determined to deliver lasting infrastructure that benefits every community in Antigua and Barbuda,” she stated.
The Ministry has pledged to continue releasing regular updates as new works roll out across the island in the coming months.

I see they patching All Saints Road. I hope this doesn’t mean that they not gonna start on that highway before the end of the year as promised
I think all the roads in Antigua should be fix even private roads because we were tax with a 40% increase every year by transport board and the government.so I don’t think we should have any bad roads at all..the road from the Chinese embassy leading out to kess import should be fix .
I’m pleased to see more work in St. John’s and main highways, but what about smaller or rural communities? They deserve the same attention. The benefits should reach everyone, not just the main roads
Great work MOW. Alot of roads are being addressed. We like that
Great to see progress being made! Some of these roads were long overdue for repairs.
