Public schools on Barbuda will be closed on Friday, October 10, as the island remains under a Tropical Storm Warning with Tropical Storm Jerry expected to pass north of the Leeward Islands.
The Ministry of Education confirmed the decision late Thursday, noting that weather forecasts show a higher probability of storm-force winds affecting Barbuda. Officials said the move was made out of caution to ensure the safety of students and school staff.
However, classes will continue as normal on mainland Antigua, where a Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect.
Education officials said they will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates should conditions change.
Residents across both islands are being encouraged to stay alert and follow official advisories from the Met Office and the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) as the storm approaches.
