
Governor General Sir Rodney Williams honours Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yanling with Faithful and Meritorious Service Cross

Their Excellencies, Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams, on Monday presented the Governor General’s Faithful and Meritorious Service Cross (FMC) to Her Excellency Zhang Yanling, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Antigua and Barbuda, in recognition of her outstanding service during her tenure from December 2021 to October 2025.
The presentation took place during a special ceremony held at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in St. John’s.
The award honours Ambassador Zhang for her distinguished contribution to strengthening bilateral relations, promoting cultural understanding, and advancing development cooperation between Antigua and Barbuda and China.

Throughout her four-year tenure, Ambassador Zhang played a key role in deepening collaboration across education, agriculture, fisheries, health, housing, security, and culture. Her efforts led to several capacity-building and infrastructure initiatives that supported national development priorities.
She was also widely recognized for her community engagement and cultural diplomacy, organizing Children’s Day celebrations, Chinese New Year receptions, and National Day events that fostered closer people-to-people ties. In addition, she supported local charities and outreach programmes that reflected genuine care for the Antiguan and Barbudan community.
In his remarks, Sir Rodney Williams commended Ambassador Zhang for her dedicated service and lasting impact.
“Ambassador Zhang’s tenure has been marked by faithful service and practical partnership,” Sir Rodney said. “Her leadership translated goodwill into tangible benefits for our people—strengthening institutions, building capacity, and nurturing cultural understanding. On behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, we thank her for a legacy that will endure.”

Lady Williams also expressed gratitude for the Ambassador’s warm and inclusive approach.
“Through consistent outreach and genuine friendship, Ambassador Zhang brought our communities closer together,” Lady Williams noted. “We are grateful for her engagement with our schools, cultural organizations, and charitable groups.”
In accepting the honour, Ambassador Zhang thanked the Governor General and the people of Antigua and Barbuda, expressing deep appreciation for the recognition. She reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between both nations.
With this conferment, Ambassador Zhang Yanling is now entitled to use the post-nominals FMC, signifying the Governor General’s Faithful and Meritorious Service Cross.
