BREAKING: All Public Schools Closed Today as Heavy Rains from Tropical Storm Jerry Soak Antigua and Barbuda

The Ministry of Education has closed all public schools for today as widespread rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Jerry continues to affect the island.

Education Minister Daryll Matthew said the decision was taken out of an abundance of caution following advice from the Met Office and disaster officials, noting persistent downpours, waterlogged roads, and the potential for localized flooding in low-lying communities.

He added that student and staff safety is the priority and that the Ministry will continue to monitor conditions closely.

Private schools are encouraged to follow the guidance based on their own assessments of local conditions.

  6. Will incompetence and poor, untimely decision making ever stop in this country? I find the weather reporting poor and I simply have no confidence in them. When there is an impending storm, reports should be detailed and frequent, on all media outlets.
I agree with Milenda. The decision to close school was late and should have been made earlier than it was.
