Members of the Burning Flames Band
Antigua and Barbuda’s Independence celebrations in the United States are set to turn up the heat this year as the legendary Burning Flames receive a special tribute at the annual Independence Gala in New York.
The iconic family band, whose infectious rhythms have defined generations of Antiguan and Barbudan music, will not only perform but will also be recognized as honoured guests at the gala hosted by the Consulate General of Antigua and Barbuda.
The highly anticipated event will be held on Saturday, November 15, at the elegant Glen Island Harbour Club, bringing together nationals from across the U.S. diaspora for an evening of pride, culture, and celebration.

This year’s theme, “Red and Gold,” perfectly captures the fiery energy and brilliance of the Burning Flames, whose hits like Workey Workey and Swinging Engine helped shape the soundscape of soca music both regionally and internationally.
Ambassador Walton Webson, Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said the tribute is a fitting acknowledgment of the band’s decades of musical excellence and cultural influence.
“Our Independence Gala, in this milestone year for our revered cultural ambassadors, gives the diaspora the perfect opportunity to show the band their own love and appreciation,” Ambassador Webson noted.
“While so many Antiguans and Barbudans have made our country proud, in the galaxy of stars of our highest achievers, the Burning Flames continue to shine bright.”
Now in its 44th year of Independence and coinciding with Burning Flames’ 40th anniversary, the gala promises to be the Consulate’s most vibrant and well-attended event yet.
Tickets are reportedly selling fast, with three pricing tiers:
US$200 (until October 15)
US$225 (October 16–November 9)
US$250 (November 10–event night)
Organizers are urging the Antiguan and Barbudan community across the United States to show their support and celebrate not only the nation’s progress but also the enduring legacy of a band that has kept the nation dancing for four decades.
