Dear Editor,
As a resident of All Saints West, I could not help but respond to the recent article by our parliamentary representative, Anthony Smith Jr., titled “Harold Lovell: The Man Who Turned His Back on the People of All Saints West.”
The title alone is ironic – coming from the very man who has, in practice, turned his back on the people he was elected to serve.
Let’s be honest: hypocrisy would be amusing if it weren’t so painful to live through.
Here are the facts we face daily:
• The All Saints Clinic has been closed for over 900 days – almost three years – leaving mothers, elders, and children without access to basic healthcare.
• Crime is at crisis levels, and residents no longer feel safe in their homes.
• Community infrastructure and Garbage collection are deteriorating before our eyes.
• And the representative who once promised to “put people first” has been missing in action.
Yet, instead of addressing these pressing issues, Mr. Smith has chosen to attack Harold Lovell, a man whose record of service, competence, and integrity speaks for itself.
Mr. Smith was elected under the UPP banner, supported by the very people and machinery he now ridicules. The truth is simple: He didn’t cross the floor; he crossed the people.
After nearly three years in Parliament and more than a year sitting comfortably on the government benches, what tangible results can he point to?
Beyond the photo opportunities and self-praise, what meaningful progress has been made for the people of All Saints West?
Mr. Smith likes to boast, #StillLegitWithSmith. But the reality for many of us is:
• We are still without healthcare.
• We are still fearful in our communities.
• We are still waiting for real leadership.
Perhaps the more fitting slogan would be #StillLegitwithSmithTheRenownedHypocrite.
Until the clinic reopens, the streets are safer, and the people see tangible improvements, Mr. Smith has no moral authority to lecture anyone about anything.
Does he not take any responsibility? He continues to blame others for the very shortcomings that define his own tenure. If he had shown half the courage in Parliament that he now displays behind a keyboard, All Saints West might have been in a much better place today.
The people of this constituency deserve better. We deserve a representative who serves, not one who switches sides and rewrites history to suit his ego.

Every word of this letter speaks truth. We’ve been without proper healthcare for years. The clinic gates stay locked, and people have to go all the way to Clare Hall or Fiennes. But yet time always there for press releases and Facebook photo ops. We need action, not talk.
Smith doing what Lovell never did …actually trying to connect with young people. Maybe not everything perfect yet, but at least he didn’t abandon the area after losing. Lovell only show face when he want a headline.
N here goes the rhetoric speeches. Well Lord!!!
He might be doing so in Sea View Farm but what happened the rest of the constituency there is a disconnect. Imagine I voted for him to represent me and can’t see this man to have a word. He make decisions without the input of the majority of the people who sent him to parliament.
Bevely the letter facts ..smith is a hypocrite he neglect his own people who made him win that sear..if he knows what good for him leave Harold Lovell alone becas he wont win Allsaint west under the ABLP
He’s fearful of Lovell so he’s trying to distract us with his hypocrisy but he’s karma is about to catch up on him .he’s like a rolling stone that gathers no moss election soon call so wet your hands and wait for us Lovell have you jumping out you boots is so you to have it ,you gonna get what’s coming to you.
The writer hit the nail on the head, our rep gone ghost since he cross. The road from Buckley’s to Freemans still look like war zone. And crime getting outta hand. When last anybody see him walking through the area?
I respect the writer but this letter just playing politics. Lovell’s record not clean either. You can’t call out hypocrisy and pretend Lovell was perfect. Both of them could do better, but stop pretending one is angel and the other is devil.
Politics in Antigua turn into a blame game. Whether it’s Lovell or Smith, the people catching the hell same way. We need representatives who actually deliver, not ones who remember us only during campaign.
I want Smith to answer the big question, Is he running on labour party ticket or is he independent as he seems to be making out himself to be. I am a constituent n I am really confused. I heard the PM said he would but Smith shying away from it so I need to hear from him. Hope he will be able to declare it at the town hall meeting as all the labour stalwarts are going to be there. Let’s hear Mr Smith!!!
Every election we get promises about community development, and every time we end up with empty talk. All Saints West deserve better. Mr. Smith, stop fighting ghosts and start fixing what the people can see.
The truth hurts sometimes and this letter pulls no punches. Maybe it’s time some folks started listening instead of deflecting.
#StillLegitWithSmith? More like #StillWaitingWithSmith. The hypocrisy here is thick, and the people aren’t fooled. 900 days without healthcare, crime skyrocketing, and infrastructure crumbling yet the representative attacks someone else? The nerve! People

Everybody talking like Lovell was some saint. He was Finance Minister and cut plenty people work, freeze increments, and raise taxes. Some of us still recovering from that. So yes, Mr. Smith have work to do, but don’t act like Lovell was the savior.
People love to forget history. When Lovell had power, what exactly he do for All Saints West? The man had years in government and the place still look the same. So before we throw stones, let’s remember who really neglect we first.
The letter sound like sour grapes. Lovell had his chance and failed. If he didn’t turn his back on the people, why we vote him out two times? The man couldn’t even keep his own party together.
