Police Recover Stolen Vehicle After High-Speed Pursuit in St. John’s

A vehicle reported stolen on Sunday, October 12, was recovered by the police after a high-speed chase through the streets of St. John’s on Monday afternoon.

According to reports, at around 4:40 p.m., officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Gang and Guns Suppression Unit (G.A.G.S.U.), and the Traffic Department were on patrol near the Ministry of Works when they spotted a white Honda Fit that had been reported stolen.

The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver reportedly accelerated recklessly along St. John’s Street.

A chase ensued, during which the suspect vehicle collided with several parked cars before crashing into a culvert at the intersection of St. John’s Street and Wapping Lane, where it finally came to a halt. Two male occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

The police conducted a thorough search of the area, which led to the arrest of a 19-year-old resident of Villa on suspicion of robbery. He was taken into custody at the St. John’s Police Station for questioning, and the vehicle was transported to Police Headquarters for further examination.

The police are urging anyone with information about this incident to reach out to the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or to call the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline at 800-Tips (8477). Investigations are ongoing.
