Antigua and Barbuda’s Meteorological Services has issued a flash flood advisory for the islands, warning of minor flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas valid until midday today.
The advisory comes as a persistent trough system blankets the northeast Caribbean, triggering heavy showers and thunderstorms across the region.
According to meteorological data, rainfall has already exceeded one inch in some areas over the past six hours, with another inch or more expected in the coming eight hours. While property damage is anticipated to be minimal, residents should remain vigilant as streams, creeks, and drains may become elevated or overflow into streets and vulnerable communities.
Officials emphasized that while the flooding is not expected to pose an immediate threat to life, even a single foot of flowing water can sweep vehicles off roadways.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution when encountering flooded roads and to follow the safety directive: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Residents are advised to move to higher ground and avoid driving through affected areas. The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services will continue monitoring the situation and will issue updated statements as conditions develop. For the latest information, residents can contact 463-4638 or tune in to local radio and television stations.

We really needed the rain but not the flooding. Hope everyone is safe
