Forty-two new correctional officers graduated Monday from His Majesty’s Prison training program, marking the first such ceremony since 2016.
The graduation, held at the Multipurpose Cultural Centre, celebrated recruits who completed nine weeks of intensive training covering weapon handling, law, and conflict resolution.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Public Safety Sir Steadroy Benjamin expressed confidence in the new officers’ readiness. “I am satisfied to the extent that I feel sure that the security of the prisoners, the security of persons in prison and the security of the state will be well protected,” he said.
Sir Steadroy also announced plans to amend the Prison Act before December 31.
Officials say the expanded staff complement will strengthen rehabilitation programs at the Coronation Road facility, supporting efforts to reduce recidivism and better prepare inmates for successful reintegration into society.
