WATCH: Government to appoint deputies at major statutory corporations to strengthen transparency

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that the government will soon be appointing deputy managers across several major statutory corporations as part of a broader effort to improve transparency, accountability, and leadership continuity within the public sector.

Among those affected will be the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, where Port Manager Darwin Telemaque is expected to have a deputy appointed in the coming weeks.

The move, Browne said, is not a reflection of performance but a step toward building stronger institutional structures and ensuring proper oversight.

Speaking over the weekend, the Prime Minister explained that the initiative will extend to other key agencies, including the Transport Board and additional government departments.

  7. This not a bad move at all I really think all gov departments should have deputies who can carry out the work in the absence of the bigger boss. I just hope that the Directors are opened to the idea and not frustrate the deputies
