Due to the threat from Tropical Storm Melissa, the Jamaican government has issued a Hurricane Watch and upgraded the Tropical Storm Watch to a warning for the island and parts of Haiti.

A Hurricane Watch is now in effect for southwestern Haiti and Jamaica, indicating possible hurricane conditions. A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Jamaica, with tropical storm conditions expected within 36 hours.

Tropical Storm Melissa is currently located at latitude 15.5 N, longitude 74.9 W, moving northwest at 5 mph. It is expected to approach Jamaica and southwestern Haiti, potentially strengthening into a hurricane in a couple of days.

The forecast details include maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, and tropical-storm-force winds extending up to 115 miles from the center. Rainfall is predicted to be between 5 to 10 inches in the southern Dominican Republic, Haiti, and eastern Jamaica, with the possibility of flooding and landslides.

Hurricane conditions could start affecting Haiti and Jamaica from Friday afternoon, with flash and urban flooding likely in the impacted areas. For storm updates, please monitor local meteorological services.
