PINKparty Raises Record $70,000 for Breast Cancer Care at SLBMC

In a powerful show of unity and compassion, the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre’s (SLBMC) annual PINKparty has raised a record-breaking EC$70,000 to support breast cancer care and early detection.

Now in its 12th year, the event continues to rally individuals, businesses, and organizations behind one shared goal, strengthening local cancer care services. This year’s funds will go toward the hospital’s ongoing campaign to purchase a new mammogram system valued at roughly US$250,000, a critical upgrade that will enhance screening and diagnosis for women across Antigua and Barbuda.

“Like other public institutions, we face mounting budget constraints; yet the urgency of breast cancer, its prevention, detection, and treatment cannot wait,” said Salma Crump, SLBMC’s Head of Marketing and Communications. “Anything we can do to enhance the care we provide can’t come fast enough for patients, for their loved ones, and for us. That includes ensuring we have a reliable mammogram service”

Crump said this year’s success reflects a growing sense of community urgency around breast cancer awareness.

“This year, we had the most group registrations ever, that’s urgency uniting. We raised the most funds ever, that’s urgency uniting. And we’re determined to raise what it takes to purchase that mammogram system, because that’s the urgent need. We’re this far ahead because of the incredible support of our community and we’re deeply grateful for it.”

Dr. Shivon Belle-Jarvis, SLBMC’s Medical Director, praised the effort as a shining example of community spirit.

“This is an incredible testament to what happens when a community comes together for a shared purpose. Every contribution, big or small, moves us closer to our goal of ensuring that every woman continues to have access to timely breast cancer screening and care. We are so grateful to everyone who continues to walk, dance, and give for this cause.”

The hospital is encouraging continued donations to help reach its target for the new mammogram system. Supporters can learn more or contribute via the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre Facebook page or by calling 484-2711/92.
