Senator Kiz Johnson has officially tendered her resignation from the Senate of Antigua and Barbuda, signaling her intent to contest the upcoming general election as a candidate in the St. Philip’s South constituency.
In a letter dated October 24, 2025, addressed to Senate President Alincia Williams-Grant and copied to Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams, Johnson announced that her resignation took effect immediately.
“It has been a privilege to serve the people of Antigua and Barbuda under His Excellency’s appointment and to contribute to the work of the Senate during my tenure,” Johnson wrote, expressing gratitude for the confidence placed in her and the courtesies extended throughout her service.
Johnson’s resignation is being viewed as a strategic political move, clearing the way for her anticipated participation in the upcoming Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) primary for St. Philip’s South. She is expected to challenge for the candidacy in a constituency currently regarded as one of the key battlegrounds in the east of the island.
Throughout her Senate tenure, Johnson has been known for her outspoken views on governance, youth development, and community empowerment.
Her entry into frontline politics is already generating significant interest among party supporters and constituents.
Her resignation now opens the door for the appointment of a new Independent Senator to fill the vacant seat in the Upper House.
