  2. Absolutely unacceptable. A teacher slapping a student over an unproven accusation is assault, plain and simple.

  3. Comment *So Antigua DOT News Lemme get this one straight. The teacher accused a student of something as serious as touching her buttocks, slap him and nobody calls the parents or reports it to the principal? How are we in 2025 still dealing with this kind of thing? Whether the accusation true or not, there are protocols investigations, statements, witnesses. You don’t hit a child over a rumour and then pretend like nothing happen. The boy had a swollen face, and we calling that “discipline”? Nah man. Teachers are supposed to be protectors, not prosecutors. If a student had raised a hand to a teacher, police would be at the gate before the bell ring. But when it’s the other way around, everything hush-hush and “under investigation.” Antigua’s education system needs serious reform cameras in classrooms, accountability, and real training on emotional control. These are people’s children, not punching bags. And the Ministry better not sweep this one under the rug, because too many of these stories get buried until another child ends up traumatized.

  5. I feel like I’m going crazy, Shermain, tell me I’m dreaming. I wouldn’t have wronged the young man to slap he back. First and foremost if the young man touched your bottom you take the matter to the principal not slap him. This is some kind of hate

  6. Sometimes students misbehave, yes but adults have to maintain control. Slapping a child is never the answer.

  13. I wonder why the teacher never reported the incident. She is required to, no? The incident has to be thoroughly investigated. Someone also mentioned that the student seems ‘troubled’ because of prior sanctions. But as an educator, I have seen students experience mistreatment simply because they were made “easy” targets by fellow teachers. I had a student say to me (paraphrasing: Miss, they excluded me for months and I know I didn’t do this thing. I was sitting at home wondering if I was crazy and did this thing they accused me of without realising what I was doing. I thought I was done.) The results of the investigation showed that he did not do what they accused him of. I advised him not to make himself an easy target as he was simply not the most well-behaved student.

  15. There are some students that some teachers dont like. Believe me when i say this. And like one writter just said they make themselves easy prey because of how they behave but many times some of these students are just victims. I know some teachers willfully ignore children because they have a beef with the childrens parents. Teaching is a calling and those who are not called shouldnt teach because all kinds of things will happen to people children

  16. Whether the accusation true or not, that’s not how you handle it. Teachers supposed to be examples, not aggressors

  17. This needs to go straight to the Ministry. Parents sending their children to school to learn, not get slapped.
