The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is alerting the public to a product recall involving Neutrogena Make-up Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes following the discovery of bacterial contamination.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), tests conducted by Kenvue Brands LLC — the parent company of Neutrogena — found the presence of a bacterium known as Pluralibacter gergoviae in certain batches of the product.
The FDA has classified the situation as a Class II recall, meaning the affected wipes could cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” though the likelihood of serious harm is considered remote.
The recalled towelettes are identified by lot number 1835U6325A.
Health experts warn that Pluralibacter gergoviae can cause serious infections in individuals with weakened immune systems or chronic medical conditions, and in those recovering from surgery. The bacteria have been linked to respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, eye infections, and in severe cases, sepsis.
The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is urging consumers who may have purchased the affected product to stop using it immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
For additional information or assistance, consumers can contact the Division at 462-4347 or email [email protected].
