The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission (ABFC) has unveiled its first-ever Independence music video, a vibrant visual tribute titled “Cape” by local artist Empress, created in celebration of the nation’s 44th anniversary of Independence.
The inspiring track, which has become a favourite among both youth and adults, captures the essence of national pride, resilience, and unity. The Commission, serving as executive producer, selected “Cape” as the featured anthem for this year’s patriotic campaign, reflecting the Independence theme “Solid, Stable, Soaring.”
Minister of Education, Sports, and Creative Industries Daryll S. Matthew praised the creative vision behind the project, describing it as a “powerful expression of national identity.”
“When the Festivals Commission presented the concept, I immediately supported it,” Minister Matthew said. “This song perfectly mirrors who we are as a people — strong, grounded, and rising to new heights. I’ve especially noticed how children have embraced ‘Cape’, and I hope this video inspires them to dream big and wear our flag proudly — like their very own cape.”
For Empress, the opportunity to see her song transformed into a national visual project was deeply meaningful.
“I’m honoured and humbled that the Festivals Commission chose ‘Cape’ for this year’s campaign,” she shared. “Our flag means everything to me — it represents courage, pride, and love for country. To know that others feel that same emotion through this song is truly heartwarming.”
The ABFC is inviting Antiguans and Barbudans at home and abroad to view the official “Cape” music video and join in the celebration of national unity and strength. The video is a stirring reminder of the pride that comes with carrying the national flag — not just as a symbol, but as a cape of courage and achievement.
