Police have launched an investigation after a nine-year-old girl’s mobile phone was reported stolen in the city on Monday afternoon.

According to reports, the child was in St. John’s around 1:00 p.m. when she lent her Samsung A51 smartphone to a cousin to make a call. However, the device was never returned.

    • Given the world we live in, your question only sounds like hate! I’d give my new born a phone just to stay in contact. It’s no longer a safe world and we must stay in contact with our kids… but you wouldn’t know that. Cheap thing……

  8. As a mother, this story really breaks my heart. A nine-year-old child should be able to trust her own family, yet here we are reading about a case where that trust was taken advantage of. It’s not just about a phone it’s about teaching our children lessons on responsibility, honesty, and the painful reality that not everyone, even those close to us, will always do right by them.
I can only imagine how confused and hurt that little girl must feel. For a child, losing something so personal, especially a phone filled with photos, games, or messages, can be devastating. It’s not just a gadget; it’s a piece of their small world.
This should also serve as a wake-up call for parents and guardians. We need to have more open conversations with our children about lending their belongings, setting boundaries, and what to do when situations like this arise. I hope the police handle this with sensitivity and that the phone is recovered, but more than anything, I hope the child regains her sense of trust and security.
It’s sad that something so small can reveal such a big issue in our society the erosion of accountability and respect within families.

  12. A tough lesson in trust for such a young child, hopefully the investigation helps resolve it quickly, and serves as a reminder that even among family, it’s wise to be cautious with personal belongings.
