The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is reviewing a proposal submitted by His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor-General, for the establishment of a Long and Exemplary Public Service Award, designed to honour public officers who have demonstrated decades of faithful and distinguished service to the nation.

According to Cabinet notes, the proposed award, approved by His Majesty The King, would recognize individuals who have rendered at least twenty-five (25) years of unblemished service to the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda.

The initiative, outlined in a detailed framework from the Office of the Governor-General, sets out objectives, eligibility criteria, nomination procedures, and categories of distinction. It proposes three levels of recognition: Gold, Silver, and Certificate of Merit, to be awarded annually to a select group of deserving public servants.

Nominations would be submitted by the Prime Minister, Ministers, or the Cabinet to Government House, where a selection committee would evaluate candidates based on performance, integrity, and contribution to public service excellence.

Sir Rodney has recommended that only a limited number of medals be awarded each year, with formal presentations to take place at Government House in a ceremony befitting the national honour.

The Cabinet has acknowledged receipt of the proposal and confirmed that it is currently under review by the relevant authorities. Consultations are ongoing to refine the framework, assess eligibility guidelines, and finalize administrative procedures before implementation.

Government officials say the proposed award would not only celebrate the dedication of long-serving public officers but also inspire a new generation of civil servants to pursue excellence, integrity, and commitment in service to Antigua and Barbuda.
