The Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE) is a network of quality assurance agencies, institutions, and other stakeholders in the Caribbean region.
Its mission is to promote and enhance quality assurance in tertiary education in the Caribbean through collaboration and cooperation among its members. CANQATE aims to provide a platform for sharing best practices, capacity building, and promoting the use of regional standards for quality assurance in higher education. The network was established in 2004 and is headquartered in Jamaica.
CANQATE plays a pivotal role in fostering regional dialogues, policy development, and professional growth, ensuring that the Caribbean remains an active participant in the global discourse on education quality. The organization brings together external quality assurance agencies, government ministries, state agencies, higher education institutions, and related entities within the CARICOM region.
CANQATE’s efforts include increasing the mutual recognition of qualifications to facilitate the movement of students and graduates within the region, working together to enhance the standards and quality of tertiary education, and advocating for the adoption of international best practices and integration of global perspectives into curricula.
The organization also engages in activities such as the Ethley London Scholarship 2025, seeking nominations for persons interested in serving on its Board of Management, and seeking nominations for persons interested in becoming a CANQATE member.
CANQATE’s commitment to quality assurance in tertiary education is a testament to the region’s dedication to providing a high-quality education that meets the needs of its diverse population.
