Discussions are underway for a greater collaboration between Antigua and Barbuda and Guyana regarding fresh produce.

This is on the heels of talks between the leaders of both countries at the COP30 in Brazil.

The Minister of Agriculture, the Honourable Anthony Smith, who was in attendance at cabinet this week having traveled last week, he was mandated by the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda to coordinate with his counterpart minister in Guyana. This is to facilitate Antigua and Barbuda purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables and other food items produced in Guyana for the Antigua and Barbuda market.”

This decision follows discussion between Prime Minister Gaston Brown and President Ali on the margins of COP 30 in Brazil. The aim is to secure cheaper fruits and vegetables and other food items at a cheaper rate. This is in comparison to items purchased from other source markets. So, we should see some further reduction in prices once this strategy is implemented by the government of Antigua and Barbuda,” Cabinet Spokesperson Maurice Merchant explained.
