The Oncology Unit at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre received a touching act of generosity on Wednesday when students from the Urlings Primary School Student Council stopped by to present a special donation in support of cancer care.
During a brief handover ceremony, the students shared with Oncology Nurse Lisian Thomas how they raised the funds—explaining that the contribution came from their Breast Cancer Awareness fundraising activities held earlier this term.
Nurse Thomas warmly thanked the students, noting that their thoughtful gesture will directly assist patients receiving treatment.

The initiative is part of Urlings Primary’s ongoing effort to teach students about compassion, responsibility, and the importance of helping others. School leaders say the Student Council has been encouraged to participate in community outreach projects that build empathy and leadership skills.

Kudos to the teachers and leadership at Urlings Primary clearly, you’re teaching more than academics.
The best lessons sometimes come outside the classroom. I hope this act inspires others young and old to give with heart.
This is how you raise empathetic, socially responsible children.
This is the kind of positivity we need to highlight more. Well done, kids!
