New RO Plant to Pump Two Million Gallons Daily as APUA Delivers Major Water Breakthrough

Antigua and Barbuda is set to receive a significant boost in its water production as the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) prepares to bring the island’s newest reverse osmosis (RO) plant online by Wednesday this week.

The state-of-the-art facility, constructed at Barnacle Point alongside the Ivan Rodrigues plant, is expected to inject two million gallons of water per day into the national supply—marking one of the most substantial upgrades in recent years.

APUA Chief Executive Officer John Bradshaw confirmed that the Authority has invested heavily in the project, including the installation of approximately eight miles of new pipelines to improve distribution efficiency and reliability. He noted that more upgrades are planned, particularly to aging infrastructure, as APUA continues its push toward a modernized water network.

The new RO plant, built by Florida-based Seven Seas Water Group under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) agreement with the government, will significantly strengthen water access for several northern communities, including Coolidge, Blue Waters, Cedar Valley, and Barnes Hill.

Utilities Minister Melford Nicholas praised the development as “a major step toward water rehabilitation across Antigua,” emphasizing that the additional capacity will ease longstanding supply challenges and bring much-needed relief to affected households.

Residents in the north can look forward to a more stable and consistent water flow as APUA moves to commission the facility within days—ushering in what officials describe as a new chapter in the island’s water security efforts.
