The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) Women’s Council has taken an important step in advancing women’s well-being with a powerful mini-seminar centered on self-care and mental health, held on Wednesday.
The session brought together a diverse group of women from across the Union’s membership, all eager to explore strategies for improving their overall quality of life.
Clinical Psychologist Feona Charles-Richards delivered a compelling presentation that touched on several critical areas, including the importance of building strong sisterhoods, healing from past emotional wounds, cultivating deeper self-awareness, and practising intentionality and mindfulness in everyday life.
Her talk sparked an open and interactive discussion, with participants sharing personal reflections and encouraging one another through shared experiences.
The seminar also featured an engaging session led by Hazel Luke, ABWU Women’s Coordinator, who guided attendees through a practical exercise focused on identifying the areas of life they can control — a technique she said is key to maintaining inner peace and balance.
Participants expressed heartfelt appreciation for the event, which marked the first major activity since the reconstitution of the ABWU Women’s Council in August.
“Tonight was very empowering. It was a reminder of our self-worth and the importance of self-love,” one participant remarked.
The ABWU Women’s Council says it will continue championing women’s advancement within the workplace and is preparing a series of impactful programmes and activities in the coming year.

Mental health ain’t no joke
