A jury has convicted a 63-year-old man of sexual intercourse with a dependent and indecent assault after he abused his wife’s 16-year-old niece who was living under his care.
The teenager came to live with her aunt and the accused in 2018. She initially trusted the man as a father figure, but testified he began making nighttime visits to her bedroom, touching her inappropriately while his son slept nearby.
In November 2018, prosecutors say the accused, then 56, drove the girl to an isolated farm area where he threatened to drive them both off a cliff if she didn’t submit. She testified he then forced himself on her sexually.
The accused, however, claimed that the teenager initiated everything—asking him to take her to see her boyfriend and offering sexual favors in exchange. He said she later invited him to her room and eventually requested intercourse prompting him to take her to the farm. But he claimed erectile dysfunction prevented penetration. His wife testified to support this medical claim.
The jury acquitted on the rape charge but found him guilty of sexual intercourse with a dependent.
Sentencing is scheduled for December 12.

And even if by some wild stretch of the imagination that she did proposition him, once he agreed, it is statutory rape. I hope he gets a long custodial sentence, and peadophilia is added to the charge.
It’s time these old men in Antigua get jailed for their sexual advances on school children. And in Western societies if you fiddle with children, your prison mates will deal with you accordingly.
