Work has officially begun on the long-awaited upgrade of the All Saints Road corridor, marking a significant step toward modernizing one of Antigua’s busiest and most economically important highways.
The project is being carried out by Amdex, a partnership between the Canada-based Dexter Company and local construction expertise. Officials say the collaboration brings both technical capacity and on-the-ground knowledge to deliver a road more durable, safer, and built to modern standards.
Already, survey crews and material-testing teams are on site conducting assessments that will guide the complete reconstruction phase.
According to preliminary details, the upgrade will span over 10 miles, beginning at the
V.C. Bird Bust in St. John’s and continuing all the way to English Harbour. The project represents one of the most extensive road rehabilitation efforts currently underway in Antigua and Barbuda.
A key component of the works involves coordinated trenching with APUA to remove and replace aging water lines running beneath the roadway. Officials noted that this integrated approach—rebuilding the road while simultaneously installing new pipes—will help prevent the common issue of roads being dug up shortly after repaving.
Traffic management will also play a major role in the process. Smart detours are being planned to minimize disruptions for daily commuters and businesses that rely on the route, which serves thousands of motorists every day.
Government and project officials are encouraging the public to stay tuned for updates as the reconstruction moves through its next stages.
The All Saints Road upgrade is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and enhance access between the capital and key southern communities, including the tourism hub of English Harbour.
