MP Richard Lewis speaks to the press after the Governor General’s Throne Speech
The United Progressive Party (UPP), or at least its Parliamentary Representative for St John’s Rural West, is hoping the upcoming national budget will place strong emphasis on legislative reform and social protections.
MP Richard Lewis said he wants to see the government outline a clear legislative agenda when the budget is presented on December 4th, arguing that stronger laws are needed to promote integrity, accountability, and good governance.
Lewis also highlighted the widening wealth gap and the growing pressures on poor and vulnerable citizens. He said the budget must present meaningful policies that strengthen the social safety net, expand opportunities, and reduce economic disparities across communities.
According to the Rural West MP, the government has a responsibility to use the budget not only to report on spending but also to demonstrate its commitment to fairness, equity, and the long-term well being of the nation.

It will be interesting to see if the government addresses these gaps or if it’s more of the same.
Let’s hope you get what you want my dear Richard
