Farmers and Fishermen to receive assistance from Cabinet
With the growing concerns of food security, Cabinet is ramping up efforts to assists farmers and fishermen.
Fencing of farms, the expansion of nursery production and the construction of new wells, dams, and ponds to secure irrigation, water, and drought resilience were just some areas touched on.
Government has procured over 200 streetlights and farms are priorities for the erection of these streetlights. Cutting, surfacing, and paving of farm access roads and fuel subsidy for farmers. Now in addition to this, the cabinet has identified two areas for the development of an agro-industrial park and an eco-park.
“The eco-park, cabinet has determined, will be located at Christian Valley. The cabinet, as a matter of fact, will be taking a tour at Christian Valley this morning, Friday, and just to assess the situation there,” Cabinet Spokesperson Maurice Merchant detailed.
The agro-industrial park, cabinet has decided, will be located at Diamonds.
“Both installations will serve as hubs for agricultural innovation and production with a dedicated focus on small ruminants, agro-processing, and locally formulated animal feeds. The new parks are intended to strengthen value chains, reduce resilience on imported feedstock, and create new opportunities for agribusiness development, exports, and employment,” Merchant added.
For fishermen fuel subsidies will be increased.
