Antigua and Barbuda has welcomed a new diplomatic representative from the People’s Republic of China, following the presentation of credentials by Ambassador Jiang Wei to Governor General Sir Rodney Williams on Monday morning.

Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene confirmed the appointment during a public consultation on the Prices of Goods 2026 Bill at Parliament, noting that his late arrival was due to attending the ceremony.

Ambassador Jiang joins the mission with nearly 30 years of service in China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Most recently, she served as Consul General in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 2021 to 2025.

Originally from Wuhan, Hubei Province, Jiang began her diplomatic career in 1996 in the Department of Consular Affairs.

Her arrival comes at a time of continued cooperation between St. John’s and Beijing in areas such as education, infrastructure development, culture and climate resilience. She succeeds Ambassador Zhang Yanling, who concluded her four-year term last month.

Ambassador Zhang was recently recognized with the Governor General’s Faithful and Meritorious Service Cross for her contributions to bilateral relations.
