Jamilla Kirwan
For many years we have seen her on our screens on state media, hosting shows, or anchoring the news; now Jamilla Kirwan will take on a new role as the Independent Senator in the Upper House of Parliament.
Kirwan was sworn in at 9:30 am at Government House by Sir Rodney Williams.
It is the Governor General himself who has the power to select the Independent Senator, a seat that was left vacant after the resignation of Kiz Johnson; Johnson has thrown her hat in the ring for the St. Phillips South Constituency primaries, to represent the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP).
That Primary is scheduled for Early December.

This could bring some much-needed balance if they use the platform wisely.
Wishing her well in the new role. The Upper House needs strong voices and diverse perspectives.
Congrats to Jamilla! But remember this role comes with responsibility. We expect transparency, courage, and independence.
This could be good for transparency, but I’ll reserve judgement until we see her contributions in the senate
Congratulations to her
As per the Constitution, the Governor General has the authority to appoint the Independent Senator. This is a normal transition following Johnson’s resignation
That seat didn’t stay empty for long. With Kiz Johnson heading into the primaries, the timing is no surprise.
I can say alot but I will just say congratulations Ms Kirwan. I wish you the best
