Prominent surgeon Dr. Joseph “Joey” John is strongly denying allegations of medical negligence made against him in a High Court claim filed last week, describing the accusations as false, damaging, and entirely without merit.
The claim, filed on November 26, 2025, and published by Antigua News the following day, accuses Dr. John of negligence in relation to a medical procedure involving patient Ananthsa McDonald.
However, in a statement issued today, Tuesday, Dr. John said he has not yet been officially served with the court documents and criticized the publication for failing to request his response before releasing the story.
According to the press release, Dr. John maintains that the allegations “are completely unfounded and the claim lacks merit.” He says that had Antigua News contacted him before publication, “the falsity of the allegations would have been pointed out.”
Meanwhile, the surgeon, known for decades of excellent work in the local medical community, signaled that he intends to “vigorously defend his position” should the claim be formally served.
He also indicated plans to pursue legal remedies over what he describes as false and defamatory statements that were “clearly designed to damage his professional reputation”.
The attorney representing McDonald confirmed that the lawsuit has been filed, and Dr John will soon be served.
Despite the swirling allegations, Dr. John insists his focus remains unchanged, stating that his priority continues to be “the delivery of high-quality medical care and attending to the well-being of his patients.”

Let’s see what the evidence says.
The legal process will have to speak. Claims like these need evidence, expert testimony, and careful review, not public assumptions.
Should not he just clip his trap for now, given that he is innocent? Why make noise of it when he will be able to sue, and counter sue.
Sir Joseph John*
Joey please!!!! Served or not you are being sued
Did we expect him to say otherwise?
Let’s not crucify the man or dismiss the woman. Just wait on the evidence. Everybody deserve justice
Medical errors can happen, but false claims can also harm reputations, this is a delicate situation.
Wait so he suing the media for reporting on a court document. lol sue the court first. smh
Honestly, Antigua need better systems for handling medical complaints so things don’t end up in the media before professionals even respond.
If Antigua News really didn’t ask him for a comment before publishing, that not right. Journalism must be balanced, especially with people’s reputation on the line
Well i understand the good doc but at the same time, patients have a right to speak up if something go wrong. The court will decide what really happen
